Apple is purportedly developing artificial intelligence (AI) tools similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard, according to a report from Bloomberg News. The technology company's shares have risen as much as 2% since the news broke. The artificial intelligence framework being developed by Apple, known internally as 'Ajax', is designed to create competitive large language models (LLMs). Apple has also been testing a new chatbot, some engineers have informally termed as 'Apple GPT'.
Despite avoiding bold moves in AI, unlike tech giants such as Alphabet and Microsoft, Apple has subtly integrated advanced AI frameworks in some of its products such as Apple Photos, on device texting, and the recently launched mixed-reality headset Vision Pro. However, analysts believe that Apple has yet to match its peers in fully incorporating the new technology. The new AI effort led by John Giannandrea, Apple's head of machine learning and AI, and Craig Federighi, Apple's top software engineering executive, is part of an anticipated significant AI-related announcement expected next year.
