At the recent World Governments Summit in Dubai, NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang outlined a compelling vision for the future of artificial intelligence (AI), which he termed 'sovereign AI.' Huang emphasized the importance of nations taking ownership of their data and the intelligence that arises from it. He argued that embracing AI technology is crucial for countries to preserve their culture and history, as AI has the capacity to replicate and enhance the collective knowledge and common sense of a society. Furthermore, Huang discussed how NVIDIA's advances in GPUs have propelled forward a range of AI innovations, supporting this digital transformation.
The UAE Minister of AI, His Excellency Omar Al Olama, concurred with Huang's views, demonstrating the UAE's commitment to creating large language models and enhancing computation capabilities to boost its transition into a tech hub. Huang's comments reflected the broader trend of AI becoming more accessible and user-friendly, to the point where he suggested that the future of programming will be more about instructing machines in natural language rather than traditional coding. He encouraged all countries, including developing ones, to invest in AI infrastructure, suggesting that the costs and difficulty are lower than many perceive.
In a significant development toward regional AI integration, Moro Hub, a subsidiary of Digital DEWA, is partnering with NVIDIA to build an environmentally friendly data center. The move is indicative of the Middle East's readiness to harness the economic potential of AI, with projections of a $320 billion boost by 2030. Huang's dialogues at the summit, coupled with panel discussions and the 'Get Inspired' ecosystem event, showcased the vast potential of AI to revolutionize everything from smart cities to sustainable development.
