Google announced at its I/O conference the availability of Bard, an AI assistant comparable to ChatGPT, in around 180 countries. The tech giant plans to add new features and enhancements to Bard, including support for Japanese and Korean languages, visual responses to user queries, as well as integration with other Google services. Bard also gets an upgrade under the hood, utilizing Google's new PaLM 2 foundational large language models (LLMs), allowing for advanced math and reasoning skills as well as improved coding capabilities. Earlier, Bard was reliant on Google's LaMDA AI model. Google envisions greater functionality for Bard with the integration of Google Lens, enabling users to include images and photographs in their prompts. With others' help like Kayak, OpenTable, ZipRecruiter, Instacart, Wolfram, and Khan Academy, Google aims to add extensions to Bard to access external sources, expanding its capabilities further. Google will also integrate its existing apps like Docs, Drive, Gmail, and Maps into Bard's user experience over time. Users will be able to export Bard's responses to Gmail or Docs directly, providing a seamless drafting experience for emails and documents. Bard offers several enhancements for software developers such as an export button for code execution in Colab or Replit, and citing source code when providing code answers. Other updates include a dark theme and plans to add extensions for AI image synthesis models like Adobe Firefly. This global expansion of Bard is aligned with Google's plan to integrate generative AI into all its services. Bard is available in English for users in the 180 supported countries with a Google account, while access to further countries is anticipated soon.
